The Creative Review Engineering team is building a next-generation media review and collaboration platform to power the creation of our global slate of feature films and television series. Our mission is to empower directors, producers, and studio executives to collaborate seamlessly and creatively, enabling riveting storytelling through effortless content review, anywhere and at any time. This is a high-impact, end-to-end engineering role. We are responsible for developing a robust, cross-platform, high-performance system that centralizes and secures the thousands of work-in-progress files — including still images, short video clips, and long-form videos — generated across hundreds of active productions annually. The Creative Review Engineering Team accelerates critical decision-making during Principal Photography and Post-Production by providing a secure, high-fidelity playback experience for pre-release content, incorporating DRM, multi-factor authentication, and visual watermarking to mitigate financial losses from delays. We address complex engineering challenges to deliver a unified experience across all devices and connectivity environments via a sophisticated hybrid cross-platform architecture that ensures system-native performance for features like offline video playback and annotation. The team owns the full content lifecycle, from media ingestion and robust processing (transcoding and packaging) to implementing sophisticated collaboration features like timecode-based commenting and annotation, ensuring deep integration with the Studio's internal systems to serve as a critical part of the content creation ecosystem, ultimately enhancing how creative teams interact with media throughout the production lifecycle. ## Your Day-to-Day: - Work cross-functionally to build, test, deploy, and launch UIs that operationalize our workflows at scale. - Participate in product reviews and team meetings, providing technical insight. Help scope, estimate, and prioritize between competing needs. - Evaluate new technologies and approaches to streamline and improve our rapid application development tooling and conventions. - Regularly learn and contribute to new systems and tools as the Netflix platform and ecosystem evolve. - Participate in our on-call rotation and lead the incident reviews. - Effectively communicate complex technical issues and solutions to stakeholders. - Apply engineering best practices to guide projects and decisions, and support the growth of team members. - Uphold company values, promoting an inclusive team environment, and ensuring high standards of conduct and performance across teams. ## What You'll Find Rewarding About This Role: - You are passionate about user experience and enjoy improving UIs, building intuitive user interfaces in close partnership with UX Designers and Product Managers. - You enjoy collaborating with Backend and UI engineers, product designers, product managers, and directly with users to understand what they want, determine what they really need, and decide what to build. - You are motivated to identify business opportunities that positively impact the organization. - You strive to embrace best practices and are always looking for opportunities to continually improve. - You are willing to work flexibly across the stack or into a new domain to support a teammate when needed. - You drive the resolution of complex problems and lead strategic projects that enhance team capabilities and impact, operating across functional boundaries. - You deepen technical mastery to implement sustainable solutions, optimize system efficiency, and make informed decisions on system quality, reliability, and performance. - You leverage AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate the software development lifecycle. - You actively seek out and evaluate new AI-driven development tools to boost overall team productivity and operational efficiency. ## We Would Love to Work With You If You: - Are passionate and knowledgeable about UI Engineering and related technologies, and can make, influence, and inform architectural decisions while effectively encouraging diverse perspectives and constructive challenge. - Have experience building enterprise applications with React, TypeScript, React-Native, internal UI frameworks, and video player technologies. Familiarity with backend services built primarily with Java Spring Boot, utilizing GraphQL, gRPC, and internal frameworks is valued. Experience with media processing pipelines, transcoding, DRM systems, or cloud-based media services (such as AWS Elemental) is a plus. Familiarity with storage and metadata services (such as S3-based layers) and CI/CD tools (such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar deployment tooling) is beneficial. - Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, independence, willingness to take initiative, and inclination for collaboration.
