Each day, you will be making sure that our application landscapes evolve coherently while enabling business units and product teams to retain autonomy in how they build and run applications. You will also be responsible for setting up enterprise guardrails, target states, and decision frameworks for application architecture, focusing on modularity, lifecycle management, interoperability, and alignment to business capabilities. • Demonstrated expertise in application architecture patterns, including monoliths, microservices, and modular monoliths, as well as SaaS and COTS integration models.

• Proven experience in application modernization and portfolio rationalization within large, decentralized, or federated organizations.

• Strong architectural judgement and pragmatic decision-making skills.

• Ability to balance enterprise consistency with local requirements and facilitate trade-offs across cost, speed, and risk.

• Executive-level communication and storytelling abilities.

• Experience influencing architecture without direct delivery ownership.

• Establish guardrails for application modularity, buy vs build, SaaS vs custom development, and application lifecycle and decommissioning.

• Develop, enhance, and maintain ABB-wide architecture best practices, policies, standards, guidelines, and processes.

• Assess the existing IT environment, develop future state IT architecture, and ensure technology compatibility with existing solutions, infrastructure, and strategic direction.

• Oversee architectural review of new designs and act as the final escalation point for cross-domain or cross-portfolio application decisions.

Qualifications for the role

• 10+ years in application or enterprise architecture roles in large, decentralized, or federated organizations

• Proven track record in application modernization and portfolio rationalization

• Experience influencing architecture without direct delivery ownership

• Expertise in application architecture patterns (monolith, microservices, modular monoliths), SaaS and COTS integration models, domain-led design and capability mapping application lifecycle management and hybrid and multi-cloud application environments

• Strong architectural judgement and pragmatic decision-making
