What you’ll do

  • You will be accountable for ensuring compliance with all relevant employment legislation in the Japan office, ensuring legislation changes are proactively addressed, interpreted, and implemented with a best practice approach.

  • You will provide sound guidance and advice to our Senior stakeholders, line managers and the wider team on all employee relations (ER) matters and will be able to independently manage ER matters from start to finish (e.g. disciplinaries, grievances, performance management, long term sickness, occupational health, investigations, redundancies etc.)

  • You will build strong and influential relationships with senior leaders and will be responsible for ensuring their client groups receive a positive and comprehensive HR service.

  • Deal with complex problems or support business projects that are of significant concern to senior business stakeholders

  • Work closely with the Head of HR for APAC & ME to deliver the People Plan for Japan. This will involve coordinating and delivering projects aligned to the People strategy and the employee life cycle to enhance commercial outcomes for the region

  • Advise leaders in introducing best practice to impact positive culture and engagement. Do this through various forums including

  • Influencing the IG Japanese Leadership team.

  • Lead by example and build strong relationships and trust with the wider team.

  • Support country specific initiatives around Culture and Engagement aligned to the People Strategy (e.g. OHS, Wellbeing, etc.)

  • Seek regular feedback to positively enhance the stakeholder experience and proactively spot opportunities how the People function can better support outcomes

  • Support the embedding of an updated HR Target Operating Model and leverage HR tools and resources to drive self-service and consistency in global processes and standards.

  • Use data and analysis to drive better people management decision makin

  • Work with partners in other functions within the People team (Payroll, Recruitment, Operations) to continually improve our service to our team

What you’ll need for this role

  • Educated to degree level in HR, Business or relevant field

  • Extensive experience as a HR Generalist (min. 5 years) and at least 3 years in a managerial/senior capacity

  • Sound experience in managing all processes involved in the usual employee life cycle independently

  • Experience in working within the employment legislation environment of Japan

  • Driving and delivering projects of varying complexities on time and with a high standard of quality

  • Confident in working with a high degree of autonomy and comfortable with required decision making

  • Resilience in complex, fast-paced work environments with moving priorities

  • Taking ownership of processes and outcomes and proactively seeking out opportunities for continuous improvement by raising ideas, identifying gaps and challenges

  • Excellent Communications and Organisational skills essential

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills at all levels across various offices and cultures

  • Proactive and astute in in raising concerns with the Head of HR in a timely manner

  • Dynamic, energetic and positive, can-do attitude

  • Solid experience with using HR systems (Workday experience of advantage) and fluency in Microsoft Office suite of programs
