Description
We are seeking a Lead Data Software Engineer (Java) to join a Technology Stream within the Investment Banking domain, operating under a Chief Digital Information Office. In this role, you will work within an agile team to design, develop, and evolve the strategic backbone between trade capture systems and Operations and Regulatory systems within our Digital Operations Stream. You will take ownership of solution design and technical architecture, ensuring that the implementation carried out by Java engineers is robust, scalable, and aligned with our long-term vision. This undertaking is foundational to a multiyear strategic roadmap to migrate and leverage cloud technology and outperform the existing stack. Responsibilities Design and own end-to-end solution and application architecture for the strategic platform enabling trade executions to flow from trade capture systems to Operations and Regulatory applications, turning epics and features into well-structured, resilient solutions Translate business and product requirements into high-level and low-level designs, including integration patterns, data flows, interfaces, and deployment/topology decisions Provide technical leadership to Java developers in the pod, defining implementation approaches, reviewing designs and code, and ensuring adherence to architecture and engineering best practices Develop key components of the platform in Java and related technologies, balancing hands-on development with architectural responsibilities Work closely with other agile pod members in sprints to iteratively deliver on product requirements, ensuring solutions are secure, performant, and observable Collaborate with the product team and stakeholders to understand and challenge requirements, propose architectural options, and ensure that delivered functionality aligns with strategic goals Contribute to the technical roadmap, identifying opportunities for simplification, reuse, and standardization across the Digital Operations landscape Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience 5+ years of experience designing and implementing complex Java-based backend systems and integrations At least 1 year of relevant leadership experience Proficiency in Python and Apache Spark Expertise in solution or technical architecture, including designing distributed, event-driven systems, defining APIs and integration contracts, and producing architecture artifacts (e.g., HLD/LLD, sequence and deployment diagrams) Familiarity with modern data and processing technologies such as data streaming, real-time and batch processing, with exposure to Databricks; Kubernetes is a plus Significant experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines and concepts (e.g., ADO, GitHub or GitLab) Competency in TDD and engineering best practices (code reviews, clean code, automated testing) Knowledge of cloud architecture with delivered solutions on at least one major cloud provider Understanding of software design principles (e.g., SOLID, domain-driven design, event-driven architectures) Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders and guide other developers Proficiency in English at an Upper-Intermediate level (B2) or higher Nice to have Skills in Microsoft Azure Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
